Why EquateIt for NAPLAN tutoring

NAPLAN tests specific skills in specific formats — and the students who perform best are the ones who are familiar with those formats before the test, not just the ones who know the most content. Our NAPLAN tutors focus preparation on exactly the skills the test actually assesses: for Numeracy, this means multi-step reasoning, applying operations to unfamiliar contexts and interpreting data. For Reading, it means comprehension of text types ranging from narrative to persuasive to informational. Students who practise NAPLAN-format questions under timed conditions for 8–12 weeks before the test consistently perform better than students who do general Maths or English revision. We offer NAPLAN tutoring in Melbourne for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, in-person and online, with timed practice papers and detailed marking. Parents receive a weekly report on progress across the NAPLAN domains. The session structure adapts based on which domains the student's practice scores show the most improvement potential.

Frequently asked questions

When should NAPLAN preparation start?

NAPLAN is held in March each year. We recommend starting preparation 8–12 weeks before the test — this gives enough time to work through all the question types systematically and to build test-day familiarity without burning the student out.

How is NAPLAN structured?

NAPLAN assesses students in four domains: Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar, punctuation) and Numeracy. Since 2023, NAPLAN is an adaptive online test — harder or easier questions are presented based on how students answer earlier questions. This means students must perform consistently across the full test.

Are NAPLAN results important?

NAPLAN results are used by schools for internal tracking and, in some cases, by selective high schools as part of their entry process. They don't directly contribute to VCE or ATAR. Strong NAPLAN performance at Year 5 and 7 is a reliable indicator of secondary readiness.

Do you offer online NAPLAN tutoring?

Yes. NAPLAN tutoring is available online for families across Victoria. Since NAPLAN is itself delivered as an online test (since 2023), practising online has an additional benefit — students are familiar with the digital format before test day.
