Why EquateIt for Online tutoringing — Anywhere in Victoria

Online tutoring removes the geographic constraint that has always limited access to specialist tutors. In Victoria, the best VCE Maths and Science tutors have historically been concentrated in Melbourne's inner suburbs — meaning regional students, outer-ring families and anyone whose schedule doesn't suit travel all missed out. EquateIt's online sessions work on a shared digital whiteboard: the tutor sees the student's handwritten working in real time and annotates directly on it, making the dynamic close to sitting beside them. Between sessions, students use our platform for VCAA-aligned practice questions and instant step-by-step marking. Progress is reported to parents weekly regardless of mode. We tutor online across Victoria for Years 3 through 12 and all VCE subjects. There's no commute time to schedule around, no weather cancellations, and no geographic limit on which tutor we can match to a student. Families in Ballarat, Geelong, Bendigo and regional Victoria access the same specialists as inner-Melbourne students.

Frequently asked questions

How do online sessions actually work?

Sessions run on a shared digital whiteboard — student and tutor both draw, write and annotate on the same canvas in real time. The tutor sees exactly what the student is writing and can mark up errors step by step. Students access the whiteboard through our platform with no extra software to install.

Is online tutoring as effective as in-person?

For most subjects, yes. The biggest factor in tutoring effectiveness is session frequency and tutor quality — not the format. Many of our students who started in-person have switched to online for convenience and report the same results. The shared whiteboard makes Maths and Science tutoring effective online in a way that simply video-calling doesn't.

What do students need for online sessions?

A device (tablet preferred for handwriting, laptop also works), a stable internet connection, and a stylus if on a tablet. No extra accounts or subscriptions beyond EquateIt are needed.

Do you tutor regional Victoria students?

Yes. Online tutoring is available to students anywhere in Victoria — Ballarat, Geelong, Bendigo, Shepparton, Warrnambool, Mildura and beyond. We have students from across regional Victoria who access specialist VCE tutoring they couldn't find locally.

What makes for the best online tutoring, rather than just a video call?

The shared whiteboard. A lot of "online tutoring" is really a plain video call where the tutor can only watch the student. The best online tutoring lets the tutor and student write on the same canvas, so errors get caught at the exact step they happen — which is what matters for Maths and Science, where the work is handwritten and sequential. That, plus matching a genuine subject specialist rather than a generalist, is what separates effective online tutoring from a screen-share.
