Why EquateIt for VCE Chemistry tutoring

VCE Chemistry is widely regarded as one of the most demanding VCE subjects — the content is broad, SACs are heavily weighted, and the exam requires both precise recall and the ability to apply knowledge to novel scenarios. Our Chemistry tutors break the syllabus into modules aligned with the VCAA study design so students always know exactly what they need to know and how to express it in mark-worthy language. Special attention goes to extended-response questions, where students often lose marks not because they lack the chemistry knowledge but because they don't frame a complete answer. Between sessions, students work through targeted practice on our platform with examiner-style feedback on every attempt. For SAC preparation, tutors run mock tasks under timed conditions with detailed written feedback — the same approach that has consistently lifted our Chemistry students' scaled scores.

Frequently asked questions

How do your tutors help with VCE Chemistry SACs?

SAC preparation is a major focus. In the weeks before a SAC, your tutor will run timed practice tasks, mark them with examiner feedback, and focus remaining sessions on the highest-yield topics for that specific SAC. We also provide written notes on common marking pitfalls for each SAC type.

Is VCE Chemistry harder than Biology?

It depends on the student. Chemistry requires strong mathematical application alongside conceptual understanding. Biology is more content-heavy with less maths. Students comfortable with quantitative reasoning often find Chemistry more manageable; those who prefer memorisation tend to prefer Biology.

How long before the VCE exam should we start Chemistry tutoring?

Ideally Term 1 of Year 12. This gives time to work through Units 3 & 4 systematically before exam preparation accelerates in Term 3. Students starting in Term 3 can still improve, but the focus shifts almost entirely to past-paper technique and high-yield topic consolidation.

Do you cover both Units 1–2 and Units 3–4 Chemistry?

Yes. Units 1–2 establish the foundations of structure, bonding and reactions — gaps here compound in Year 12. We cover the full study design from Unit 1 through to the exam.

I need a Chemistry tutor in Melbourne — do you cover in-home and online?

Yes. Our Chemistry tutors work in-home across Melbourne and online anywhere in Victoria. Online sessions use a shared whiteboard so the tutor can work through equations and mechanisms with the student step by step, exactly as they would in person.
