When do Victorian schools go back in 2026?
Victorian government schools return for Term 1 2026 on Tuesday 27 January 2026. Teachers return on Monday 26 January (a student-free day). The first day of school for students is Tuesday 27 January.
Do Catholic and independent schools in Victoria have the same holidays?
Not always. Catholic Diocese schools and independent schools set their own term dates, which can differ from government school dates by up to a week — particularly at the start of Term 1. Always confirm with your specific school.
How many weeks in a VIC school year?
Victorian government schools have approximately 40 school weeks per year across four terms. In 2025: Term 1 (9 weeks) + Term 2 (10 weeks) + Term 3 (10 weeks) + Term 4 (11 weeks) = 40 weeks. VCE students have fewer effective weeks due to study score deadlines and exam period.
