Why EquateIt for Year 10 tutoring

Year 10 is arguably the most strategically important year of secondary school, and the one most students underestimate. The content feeds directly into VCE — Year 10 Maths into Methods Unit 1, Year 10 Science into Chemistry and Physics Unit 1 — and a student who arrives in Year 11 with shaky Year 10 foundations spends the first term catching up instead of moving forward. Our Year 10 tutors focus on the specific gaps that compound in VCE: functions and factoring in Maths, bonding and equations in Science, essay structure in English. The aim is not just to improve Year 10 grades but to ensure the student enters Year 11 genuinely ready. For students planning to study VCE Mathematical Methods or Specialist, strong Year 10 algebra and trigonometry is non-negotiable. For those considering Chemistry or Physics, Year 10 Science provides the conceptual foundation for Unit 1. Sessions are built around where the student's practice data shows gaps, and parents receive a weekly update on topics covered and progress.

Frequently asked questions

What subjects does EquateIt tutor in Year 10?

Maths (including advanced and standard pathways), Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology foundations), and English. For students with specific subject needs outside these, contact us and we'll advise on tutor availability.

My Year 10 child wants to do VCE Methods — what should they focus on now?

Year 10 Maths content that feeds directly into Methods Unit 1: linear and quadratic functions, factoring, simultaneous equations, and introductory trigonometry. A student who can do these fluently will find Unit 1 manageable. One who can't will struggle from the first week. We'll identify the specific gaps in a free diagnostic and build from there.

Should my Year 10 child be doing subject selection already?

Most Victorian schools ask students to choose VCE subjects at the end of Year 10 for a Year 11 start. We can help you think through subject selection — which subjects suit the student's demonstrated strengths, which have the best scaling given realistic performance, and what the differences between similar subjects (Methods vs Further, Chemistry vs Biology) actually mean in practice.

Is Year 10 tutoring available online?

Yes. All subjects are available online via our shared whiteboard platform, with the same tutors and weekly progress reporting as in-person sessions. Many Year 10 families do a mix of in-person and online depending on the week.
