Why EquateIt for VCE Maths tutoring

VCE Maths covers a broad range of subjects and year levels — and the right tutor depends entirely on where the student is and where they need to go. Mathematical Methods is the most widely studied VCE Maths subject and the gateway to engineering, science and commerce degrees. Specialist Mathematics is the highest-difficulty option, studied alongside Methods, and scales exceptionally well for university entrance. For students in Years 7–10, the priority is building the algebraic foundations that make Methods manageable in Year 11. Our Melbourne Maths tutors are matched to the specific subject and level — a Methods tutor is not the same as a Specialist tutor, and we don't treat them as interchangeable. Each student starts with a free diagnostic that identifies precisely which topics are costing marks, and every session is built around what the practice data shows, not a textbook chapter. Parents receive a weekly progress update regardless of which Maths subject their student is studying.

Frequently asked questions

What VCE Maths subjects do you tutor?

We tutor Mathematical Methods (Units 1–4), Specialist Mathematics (Units 1–4), and Further Mathematics. We also tutor Years 7–10 Maths for students building foundations ahead of VCE. Methods is our highest-demand subject.

Should my child study Mathematical Methods or Specialist Maths?

Most VCE students who do "Maths" study Mathematical Methods — it's the standard pathway and a prerequisite for most STEM degrees. Specialist Mathematics is a separate, harder subject studied in addition to Methods, not instead of it. It's suited to students who are genuinely strong at Methods and considering engineering, maths or physics at university.

What is the difference between Methods and Specialist tutoring?

Methods tutoring focuses on calculus, functions, probability and statistics. Specialist goes deeper into proof, complex numbers, vectors and mechanics. The content is substantially different — we match students with tutors who specialise in the specific subject, not one tutor for both.

Do you tutor both in-person and online?

Yes. In-person sessions are available across Melbourne, and online sessions run anywhere in Victoria on our platform with a shared whiteboard — the same practice tools and weekly progress reporting as in-person.
